Coach Mike

Easy Blog Photo
Brayden and Mitchell are playing a game called Coach Mike. Mitchell set the game up using our class P E gear. Mitchell gave the instructions. Mitchell made sure Brayden understood the rules. He wasn't allowed to pick up the trapped ball. The tricky part was you couldn't pick up the skipping ropes.

Achieving my Writing Goal

Mitchell has been working hard on his writing goal.  He can independently hear the first sound in each word. Well done Mitchell.  I wonder what writing goal you will choose next to work on?

Riding Our Bikes

Reading and writing about things you enjoy makes literacy fun.  We have been reading lots of books about bikes and racing.   We wrote a letter home asking if we could bring our bike or scooter to school.  We had lots of fun and we shared our bikes and scooters with the children who couldn't bring their bikes that day.

We were all a bit tired after all that racing around!

Alba helped Lawrie ride her bike.  "Look ahead Lawrie I'll push

 you!"
Charley supporting Lily on Kairangi's scooter.

Kairangi demonstrated to the other children how to use the brake on the scooter to help you to stop.

Sharing Equally

In maths we have been learning about sharing equally.  Today we used pretend pizza bases to help us learn how to share equally into halves and in quarters.  We made pizza toppings with  play dough.  We then shared these toppings equally in halves and in quarters.  We discovered that if you can skip count it sometimes helps to work out how many toppings in each section of the pizza quicker.

Writing a Letter Home

Tomorrow we are going to ride our bikes at school.  We are learning and reading about lots of different bikes and what they can do.   We wrote a note home asking if we could bring our bikes to school.  Fingers crossed I am allowed too.  Whoops I forgot to write I need to bring my bike helmet too!

Wow Mitchell you are on the author's chair again!

"I like the book Honey Honey in my box.  I have been copying out the words."

Our Car Ramp

Easy Blog Photo

Today we were making a car ramp outside. We learned lots about our play. We used puddles to clean our cars to reuse on the ramp. We had a problem where the cars were flying out the end of the ramp. We decided to use sand to stop the cars. Then we had another problem because the sand at the end created a type of sand ramp and the cars started flying over the ramp. We solved the problem by making the sand into a wall to stop the cars.

We had another idea to create a high ramp at the beginning of the track so we didn't have to push the cars so hard. We used blocks of wood to make one end of the ramp higher.

The Ferry Boat

Easy Blog Photo
"This is a ferry boat where cars get in. It travels to Australia. It goes across the sea to get to Australia."
Mitchell made the bottom of it and Jesse made where the cars go.
" The people stand on top. Ten cars can fit inside. Next time we have to make the hole bigger because we couldn't get the cars out!"

Music Pattern

For Friday Surprise Day, we continued our exploration into patterns. Today we used music to create a pattern. Can your child explain their pattern? Can you make a new pattern together?

My Puppet

Easy Blog Photo
Here is a picture of Mitchell and his puppet, Max. Te Kakano made puppets for Friday Surprise Day and our Whakangahau. We had to think about all the parts our puppets would need. We also had to show persistence to make sure the parts stayed on and looked how we planned it.

"My Puppet has three eyes. It has hair and it has a nose button. It has a button at the back too. I had to keep trying to put the button on. I glued it on and that was hard because I had to hold the bottom bit and the sock."

Working At The Wood Bench

Easy Blog Photo
Today Mitchell worked on the wood work bench making a car.  He used milk bottle tops for the wheels.  He worked for a long time on his car and used lots of bits and peices he found to add to his car.  He found out that some things are easier to hammer a nail through than others.

Floating And Sinking

Easy Blog Photo
After making boats and testing them to see if they floated or sank the children become very interested in what makes objects sink or float.  Mitchell tested out his ideas in the water.
"I think the shell will float. Oh it sank! I can put things in the cup before it sinks. 15 things in the cup before it sank.  That is a record."

Beach Day

My class went to Nga Motu Beach.

We played in the sand and I drew a picture of a dog with a stick. Can you see its legs?

After we had lunch, we went for a swim. This is a picture of my friend and I chasing the waves.
